the iditarod is a race, that is over 1150 miles long.Mushers have been running the race annually since 1973.The first Iditarod winner took 20 days to complete the race. The Iditarod is sometimes called “The Last Great Race on Earth.” The Iditarod race is a commemoration, or an event to remember something special, of that historic event. most people use swing dogs and lead dogs or huskies. the course is from Anchorage to Nome. the next race will be on March 5Th 2009. The Iditarod trail is full of twists and turns, steep banks, icy hills, and long stretches across the tundra. The trail used in odd-numbered years differs from the one used in even-numbered years. Rachael Scdoris is a 22 year old racer but she's not an ordanary racer, she blind. Rachael was born with a vision disorder called congenital achromatopsia.After 12 days, 10 hours, and 42 minutes on the trail, Rachael crossed the finish line in Nome, Alaska, becoming the first legally blind athlete to complete the Iditarod.
